SAFE
Shelter And Feed Everybody

A Hunger Brief

. . . . . . The idea for this (would-be) movement is not an original one.  Neither is the fear ("The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.") which motivates me in this endeavor.

. . . . . . What follows centers on a personal quest for truth which is centered on the scriptures, the living words of God. Sadly, we live in a gray world which does not bear witness to the second covenant found in Jeremiah 31.31-34; we must learn and be taught about God, and we must exercise our spiritual discernment that we might rightly divine the truth of all matters.

. . . . . . The issue of physically feeding and providing shelter for the earth's poor is one which surely will be argued by the scribes and pharisees of today, and there will be scriptural arguments available for them to use.  "Ye have the poor with ye always," Jesus says in Mark 14.7 (and elsewhere).  What usually is overlooked is what follows in that verse, "And whensoever ye will ye may do them good." Like Thoreau and Jesus, I think we strain at gnats to swallow camels; we pay tithe and ignore weightier matters (see Matthew 23:23-24).

. . . . . . When I read that "The wisdom of this world is foolishness to God" (1 Corinthians 3:19), and consider Jesus' warnings to the believers of His day (that "In vain [the believers] worship God, teaching for doctrine the commandments of men," [Matthew 15:9] for example), it gives me pause. I think the Bob Dylan song "Idiot Wind" is a diatribe against civilization's traditions, and the line that goes, "It's a wonder we can even feed ourselves," is sarcasm at its most sardonic, since abject poverty lurks around every corner.  The simple truth we need to acknowledge is, the neighborhood can't even feed itself!

. . . . . . Perhaps this presentation will prove helpful in rectifying the situation, and promote readiness for that great and terrible day, of the coming of the Lord.  Opportunity for input and participation are available__ we can make a difference.
